Sizing a photo correctly for student or employee ID cards

College, school, and office ID cards each use their own photo dimensions — commonly a passport-style headshot cropped tighter than a full passport photo, at a lower file size since ID card printers and portals often cap uploads around 50-100KB.

This tool crops your photo to standard ID card proportions and compresses it to fit typical upload limits, without the visible quality loss that comes from compressing an already-large image down aggressively in a generic photo app.

If your institution has a specific pixel size listed in its ID card guidelines (many colleges specify this in the admission portal instructions), enter it directly rather than relying on the default preset — ID photo requirements aren't standardised across institutions the way passport photos are.

FAQ

Which exams are supported?

Presets cover SSC, UPSC, RRB, IBPS, SBI, NTA, IB, State PSC, CAPF and more — 86 exam presets in total across the toolkit.

What if my exam isn't listed?

You can enter a custom pixel size and KB limit directly.

What size photo do most college ID cards require?

Most Indian colleges request a passport-style photo around 200×230px to 300×400px under 50KB, but always check your specific institution's admission portal for the exact figure since it varies.

Can I use the same photo for both my ID card and exam applications?

You can, but exam portals usually specify different pixel and KB requirements than your college ID card system, so re-export the photo separately for each rather than reusing one file everywhere.
